Global Variables and Data Stitch in OIC
In Oracle Integration Cloud (OIC), the Assign operation can declare and assign local variables. However, local variables are limited by scope, data type, and complexity. When data must remain available throughout an integration, global variables provide broader access across the integration flow.
Supported Global Variable Types
Data Stitch Operations
The Data Stitch operation assigns values to global variables and supports both partial and complete replacement of a message payload. Its three primary operations are Append, Assign, and Remove.
Append
Add a value to a global variable without removing its existing data. For example, in a real-time integration, errors encountered during processing can be appended to a log file.
Assign
Overwrite the value of a global variable, replacing any value already stored there. For example, missing customer fields such as Country or City can be assigned a default value such as Unknown to maintain data consistency.
Remove
Delete an existing value from a global variable. In a CRM integration, this operation can remove duplicate customer records caused by input or system errors.
Scope and Security of Global Variables
Global variables are accessible to all integrations within the same OIC instance, but they are not shared across different instances. Handle them carefully—especially when they contain sensitive information—because anyone with appropriate permissions in that OIC instance may be able to access them.
